IS TURMERIC IN A SPICE DIFFERENT FROM TURMERIC IN A SUPPLEMENT?

Turmeric, the popular spice we know, is the rhizomes of the long spurge (Curcuma longa L.) also sometimes called Indian saffron. Turmeric contains in its rhizome the vast majority (about 70%) of starch, resin, and up to 5% of polyphenolic compounds known as curcuminoids. Among the curcuminoids, in turn, we can distinguish: cyclocurcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin and the most active curcumin. Unfortunately, curcumin is characterized by its hydrophobic nature, which means poor solubility in water, resulting in limited absorption and rapid metabolism. Therefore, in order to get the most benefit from curcumin's properties, it is so important to choose the best raw material, with the highest standardization and the most biodegradable form, as well as to support the formula by selecting appropriate additives that improve its bioavailability.

WHAT SETS CURCUVITA™ APART?

In the LABS212® product, the active metabolite of curcumin is tetrahydrocurcuminoids (THC). At the cellular level, the reductase system converts curcumin into tetrahydrocurcumin (THC).

Studies have shown that it stands out for its better bioavailability and also has better stability at physiological pH than curcumin alone, which may also aid their transport.

CurcuVITA™ contains patented curcumin C3 Reduct®, which is standardized to 95% tetrahydrocurcuminoids! It is the only formulation standardized to tetrahydrocurcuminoids.

To fully realize the potential of curcumin, research has been conducted for years on methods to increase the bioavailability of this compound. The most common is the addition of piperine, which is a natural nutrient bioavailability enhancer. In CurcuVITA™, we used patented, certified BioPerine® piperine, standardized to 95% piperine. BioPerine® enhances bioavailability by:
  • Increasing blood circulation in the gastrointestinal tract
  • Increasing intestinal emulsifying content (for water-soluble vitamins like B2)
  • Increasing active transport of nutrients (in the case of fat-soluble vitamins, like vitamin D or A)

WILL THE COLOR OF URINE CHANGE AFTER CURCUVITA™?

After taking the supplement, urine may take on an intense yellow to orange color due to the presence of riboflavin and curcumin.

WHAT IS THE STANDARDIZATION OF THE EXTRACT? WHAT DOES DER MEAN?

Whether an extract is of health-promoting value is determined by its standardization, which is an indicator of the content of an active substance with a specific health-promoting or therapeutic activity.

What to look for when choosing extracts? We always look at the standardization to the active substance.

In practice, it looks like this:
  • 100 mg of an extract standardized to 30% of the active substance = 30 mg of the active substance,
  • 200 mg of extract standardized to 50% of the active substance = 100 mg of the active substance.
Many manufacturers are outdoing themselves in communicating and attributing DERs to the value of their products. Is this really the case? Absolutely not! DER does not determine the health-promoting value of a substance!

DER determines how many kg of biomass/raw material is needed to obtain 1 kg of extract. DER does not indicate in any way the content of active substances, contained in the extract. Yields, crops depend on factors such as weather or phytogeographical conditions; the same plant, with exactly the same genome under different conditions will produce a different content of metabolites. In the situation of, for example, a rainy season, the amount of biomass will be higher, but of poorer quality compared to a dry season or optimal conditions, and therefore the content of health-promoting substances may vary from season to season - which does not affect the DER value, but does affect the standardization of the
