Serrapeptase (serratio-peptidase) is a protein-digesting enzyme isolated from the friendly Serratia E-15 bacterium discovered in the Japanese silkworm and has been used as a dietary supplement in Europe and Asia for more than thirty years. Doctor's Best High Potency Serrapeptase 120,000 SPU is formulated with Serrateric™, an excellent alternative to an enteric coating that protects the individual enzyme until it reaches the intestine for optimal absorption.

WHAT IS SERRAPEPTASE?

  • Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme that is derived from the Serraitia E15 bacterial strain and has been studied for more than 40 years. Because serrapeptase can be destroyed by stomach acids, Best Serrapeptase uses Serrateric, a coating that protects the enzyme until it reaches the intestines, thereby optimizing absorption.
  • How does this product work?
  • Mucous membranes are a thin layer of tissue or epithelium that lining hollow body structures that open to the outside, such as the upper respiratory system. They secrete a slightly viscous fluid called mucus, which is actually a complex viscoelastic gel that lubricates and moistens the surfaces of cavities. As part of normal, healthy physiology, mucus is the first line of defense for the nose and lungs, trapping and filtering inhaled dust, pollutants and other potentially harmful agents. Proteolytic enzymes, such as serrapeptase, can break down inappropriate protein complexes in mucus. This helps maintain a healthy balance between adequate mucus viscosity/flexibility and respiratory comfort associated with respiratory mucous membranes. As a proteolytic enzyme, serrapeptase helps dissolve unwanted hard particles made of protein, including scar tissue and blood clots.
