Fermented Jiaogulan is an "immortality herb" activated by the fermentation process, which contributes to maintaining normal blood glucose levels.

What is jiaogulan?

Jiaogulan or Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a climbing, perennial vine native to parts of Asia. Its leaves have been used as folk remedies in Asia, consumed as tea or food for more than 500 years. In ancient China, Jiaogulan was used as an energizer and rejuvenating elixir, called the "herb of immortality." Studies have shown that about 25% of Jiaogulan's active ingredients (gypsenosides) are similar to ginsenosides found in ginseng (Panax ginseng). This explains why Gynostemma pentaphyllum is often referred to as "southern ginseng."

Why use the Fermented Jiaogulan dietary supplement?

In its supplement, Terranova combines the classic jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) leaf with its fermented form, Fermogulan™. During lactic acid fermentation, microbial enzymes convert herbal constituents, such as gypenosides, into easily digestible metabolites. The manufacturer of Fermogulan™ has chromatographic studies that indicate a high content of ginsenosides in their bioactive form, such as Rg3, Rh2 and Compound K, which distinguishes this form from other jiaogulans.

How can the substances in jiaogulan delay aging?

Inside our cells is the important enzyme AMPK (adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase), which plays a key role in maintaining energy balance and cellular resistance to stress. In very simple terms, AMPK acts as a "lifespan regulator." This occurs as a result of a coordinated network of multiple cellular reactions. Since AMPK activity declines with aging, research is focused on finding substances that can activate AMPK. In various invitro experiments, such an effect has been found for compounds found in jiaogulan, among others.
