Ceramides
Ceramides are a group of organic chemical compounds classified as sphingolipids, which are a key part of the binder that fills the spaces between the cells of the stratum corneum. Deficiencies of ceramides in the epidermis result in increased permeability of the epidermal barrier, leading to increased transepidermal water loss and a decrease in epidermal hydration. What's more, a dysfunctional lipid barrier is an increased risk of skin irritation - because it is more permeable to factors of external origin, such as allergens or metabolites of the skin microbiota.

Polyglyceryl-3 PCA is a plant-derived compound, an ester of Polyglyceryl-3 (derived from rice) and PCA (pyroglutamic acid; derived from corn). Ectoin
Ectoin is a postbiotic, a substance produced by certain species of bacteria. This substance regulates the kinetics of hydration of the stratum corneum by increasing the hydration of the key epidermal protein, keratin. Used in cosmetic formulas, it soothes skin irritation and redness, and has an antioxidant effect.
Ingredients with prebiotic activity inulin and alpha-glucan oligosaccharides support the balance of the skin microbiota, which strengthens the barrier function of the epidermis.
Alpha-glucan oligosaccharides is an oligomer, a compound from the sugar group derived from maltose or sucrose. Due to its hygroscopic properties, it increases the moisture level of the epidermis. It is also considered a prebiotic, which supports the balance of the skin microbiota.
Inulin is a polysaccharide made of about 30-35 monosaccharide molecules linked by β-2,1-glycosidic bonds into an unbranched chain. Thanks to its hygroscopic properties, it forms a "moist compress" on the skin surface, soothes irritation and has a prebiotic effect on the stratum microbium of the skin.
