The product contains folate in the form of calcium L-methylfolate (Metafolin®). Metafolin® is a form of folate bioequivalent to naturally occurring folate. L-methylfolate (L-5-MTHF) is the form of folate found in food, while Metafolin® is simply the calcium salt of this compound. Metafolin® shows good bioavailability compared to the folic acid commonly used in dietary supplements. It is also a recommended form of folate for those affected by MTHFR polymorphism, a genetic variation that impedes the body's ability to properly metabolize folic acid from diet or supplements
