Spotted thistle is a plant of the asteraceae family. It is mainly found in Southern Europe, North Africa and Central Asia, and is also cultivated in Poland. Spotted thistle has characteristic purple flowers. Its flowering period is in July and August. Artichoke is a perennial plant native to Mediterranean countries. It is characterized by purple flowers occurring in spherical inflorescences. The flower heads of the artichoke are a popular delicacy in Italian cuisine.

Turmeric is a spice with a yellow color. It contains compounds called curcuminoids (including curcumin). It is thanks to curcumin that dishes with turmeric acquire a golden color.
